Shark week is soon upon us and once again SharkBytes will kick off the week by hosting Shark in the Park, our yearly fundraiser to help to increase shark awareness and contribute to shark conservation efforts.
The 2nd annual Shark in the Park will be held on July 22nd at Mendon Ponds Park in Honeoye Falls, New York. There will be free homemade ice cream provided by Sharks, prizes for each age and gender groups and best shark costume.
Last year our experience with hosting this race went beyond our expectations. Not only fun to see so many enthusiastic runners, but also so many shark lovers. We appreciate any opportunity we have to educate the public on how important sharks are to our world and this is one way we are able to accomplish our goal to do so.
In reflecting on the past year of shark news, there are so many worthy causes for us to support. Despite world efforts, controversial shark deterrents are still in use, population decline continues to exist, and illegal fishing prevails. All this leads to the perception that sharks are not valued which is something we aim to change. Removing sharks from the oceans will change the world’s ecosystem both above and below the sea level. And it won’t be a change for the better.
Sharkbytes does not stand alone in trying to save sharks. There are hundreds of organizations that work toward this worthy cause. It is our hope that people join us in our fight for the shark on July 22nd by enjoying a fun trail run and eating free homemade ice cream. If you cannot make it on race day, please consider making a donation to this worthy cause by following the link to the race donation page or going to our website.
Our goal is that Shark in the Park will become a staple in the community that aims to better our world by saving the shark. Be a part of something great during this year’s Shark Week and come run with us!
