July is Shark Awareness Month for SharkBytes
Sharkbytes is all about sharks year round but July in particular is our Shark Awareness month as it’s a busy time with Shark-Con, Shark in the Park, Shark Week and festivals in New York and North Carolina.
In July, Eric, our founder and shark expert, will be vacationing with his family in Ocean Isle, North Carolina. Of course he can not resist the opportunity to raise shark awareness so will be attending at two events. On July 2nd he will be at the Ocean Isle Beach Market and then Sunset Beach Market on July4th. If you're in the area stop by and get your head filled with shark knowledge.
During the weekend of July13th the whole team will be traveling to Florida for Shark-Con 6. We love this event! It not only has numerous engaging activities for any shark lover young and old to sink your teeth into, but also has numerous engaging speakers from Shark Week, National Geographic, and Animal Planet. This includes Mikki McComb-Kobza, Emma Cassagrande, Liz Parkinson, Cristina Zenato, and Paul Clerkin to name a few. In addition, you can meet the members of the cast of SpongeBob SquarePants!
We will be one of over a hundred vendors of shark and ocean related merchandise, including, to jewelry, art, clothing, & collectibles. Stop by and support our cause with the purchase of Sharkbytes shirt or shark.
We simply love how this event brings together shark lovers who care about the plight of sharks and the health of our environment. I always leave this event happy and rejuvenated in our fight for the shark.
The following weekend, July 21, we will be back in Rochester for our annual fundraising event, Shark in the Park. It’s a fun trail run in Mendon Ponds Park in Honeoye Falls, NY. Whether you run or walk the 5K or 10K, you will enjoy the scenic Southern Trail and maybe even see a shark in the pond! There are prizes for top finishers, free Sharks Ice cream for all, and a bounce house for the kids to enjoy. We even have a prize for the best shark costume.
Please join us by going to Runsignup and register or if you don’t want to participate you can still donate to our cause.
Finally the last weekend of the month is the Lakefront Art Show held on the beautiful north shore of Canandaigua Lake. Located within Kershaw Park, this free family event will be celebrating its 46th year of hosting fine art, music, and food. And of course we will be there educating the public on the importance of sharks in our world and the impact on our oceans with the alarming decline in population.
We look forward to this busy month in raising shark awareness and hope to see many stop at our tent to say hello.
